Release Date: July 2009
Expiration Date: July 31, 2010

An audio slide presentation and injection demonstration based on a CME satellite symposium in conjunction with the 2009 International Master Course on Aging Skin (IMCAS) annual meeting in Paris, France, January 10, 2009.

Jointly Sponsored by Dannemiller, Inc. and Athena Education Group, LLC

This educational program is made possible by an educational grant from sanofi-aventis U.S., LLC

Intended Audience: This continuing medical education (CME) activity was developed for surgeons who perform plastic, facial plastic, and oculoplastic surgery, and for dermatologists, aesthetic medicine specialists and other physicians who perform facial rejuvenation using dermal fillers.

Needs Assessment
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, between 1997 and 2007 the number of non-surgical aesthetic procedures increased 743% among women and 886% among men. Based upon the convergence of (a) increasing demand for and performance of non-surgical rejuvenation, (b) the availability of a wider variety of injectable products, and (c) the development of innovative advanced techniques for facial rejuvenation, there is a need for updated clinical education relating to advanced injection techniques and options, product use, patient selection and developing individualized treatment plans.

Introduction
Dr. Rebecca Fitzgerald and Dr. Danny Vleggaar integrate highly visual, didactic presentations to provide context for in-depth patient evaluations, treatment discussions and injection demonstrations. Drs. Fitzgerald and Vleggaar discuss the use of dermal fillers in facial lipoatrophy and rejuvenation with an emphasis on advanced techniques to optimize aesthetic outcomes. They share their extensive clinical expertise and approaches to developing customized treatment plans for facial rejuvenation.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this CME activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe facial anatomy and the facial aging process
  2. List the spectrum of dermal fillers currently available for facial rejuvenation and cite the potential adverse events associated with each product
  3. Formulate individualized combination treatment plans specific to each patient
  4. Identify advanced combination injection techniques for restoring volume to maximize patient outcomes and satisfaction

Method of Participation
This activity should take approximately 1.5 hours to complete. The participant should, in order, read the objectives and other introductory CME information, listen to the presentations, and complete the registration form, post-test, and evaluation form for instant credit. The evaluation form provides each participant with the opportunity to comment on the extent to which educational objectives were met, the quality of the instructional process, the perception of enhanced professional effectiveness, the perception of commercial bias, and his or her views on future educational needs. To access the registration form and post-test, click on the prompt on the final slide in the presentation. To receive credit for this activity, follow the instructions provided on the post-test.
